Unlock the Power of Custom Data Fields in FastCommerce

In today’s competitive e-commerce landscape, providing detailed and relevant product information can make all the difference. That’s where Custom Data Fields in FastCommerce come in. These user-defined fields allow you to store extra information not included in the default system, giving you full control over how your products are presented to customers.

Getting Started with Custom Data Fields

Enabling Custom Data Fields is simple. From your FastCommerce admin, navigate to Settings > Custom Data Fields, click the relevant section, and toggle the Enable switch. Editing existing fields is just as easy—click the field name, configure the options, and hit Save.

Applying Fields to Products and Categories

Custom Data Fields can be applied to all products, selected products, or specific categories. Simply scroll to the Applies To section, choose your target products or categories, click Apply, and then save your changes. This flexibility ensures that your additional product details appear exactly where they are most relevant.

Adding New Custom Data Fields

Need a new field? Click New Field in the top-right corner of the Custom Data Fields section, configure your field, and save. FastCommerce supports three content types for Custom Data Fields:

  • Dropdown: select one option from a list
  • Checkbox: select multiple options
  • Single line text: enter information manually

For Dropdowns and Checkboxes, you can add multiple values easily by clicking Add Item.

Configuring Fields for Individual Products

Once your fields are set up, go to Products > All Products, select a product, and scroll down to the Custom Data Fields section. Here, you can select or enter values for each field and save your changes. This ensures that every product has accurate and complete information displayed to your customers.

Three Default Fields You Can Use Today

FastCommerce also includes three default Custom Data Fields:

  • Year: Shows the manufacturing or model year, ideal for vehicles, machinery, or electronics.
  • Condition: Describes the state of the product, such as New, Used, Refurbished, or For Parts.
  • Location: Indicates where the item is stored or ships from, which can affect shipping costs, delivery times, and local regulations.

You can customize these fields further by adding additional content values to meet your store’s unique needs.

Why Custom Data Fields Matter

By leveraging Custom Data Fields, you can enhance your product listings, provide better information to customers, and improve overall shopping confidence. Whether you’re selling electronics, apparel, or specialty items, these fields give you the flexibility to highlight exactly what matters most.

Start using Custom Data Fields today and take your FastCommerce store to the next level.
